If you\u2019re standing in front of a camera for the first time \u2014 or it\u2019s simply been a long time \u2014 it\u2019s completely natural to feel a little nervous. The good news is that by the time we start shooting, we\u2019ll already have discussed the whole process, and we\u2019ll go through most of the preparation together. In this post, I\u2019ll walk you through what\u2019s worth considering before we meet: what to wear, where we\u2019ll work, what happens in bad weather, and when you\u2019ll receive the finished photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every photo shoot begins with a conversation. Send me a message via the contact page or email me, and we\u2019ll discuss exactly what you have in mind and what kind of images you\u2019d like. You don\u2019t need to have anything arranged in advance before booking \u2014 it\u2019s enough for us to agree on when and where we\u2019ll meet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This conversation is more important than you might think. This is when we find out whether you\u2019re looking for a relaxed, home-like atmosphere or a more striking outdoor photo shoot; whether every member of the family will be in the pictures; and whether there\u2019s a specific idea you definitely want to bring to life. The more I know in advance, the smoother the photo shoot will be.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This is the most common question \u2014 and often the biggest source of anxiety. Don\u2019t worry: you don\u2019t have to decide on your own. Before the photo shoot, I\u2019ll help you choose outfits and coordinate colours so that the final result looks consistent and harmonious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Prepare several options in advance and don\u2019t leave choosing your outfit until the last minute. Think about how well the clothes worn by family members or other participants work together in terms of colour and style \u2014 you don\u2019t need to dress identically, but it helps if your outfits share a similar overall feel. Above all, wear something you feel comfortable in: uncomfortable clothing shows in your posture and facial expressions, and the camera easily picks up on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If you\u2019re unsure, send me the items you\u2019re considering and we\u2019ll choose the best option together. That\u2019s exactly what the pre-shoot consultation is for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We can work in a studio, outdoors or even in your home \u2014 each setting creates a completely different atmosphere. A studio is a great choice because of its predictable, controlled lighting; an outdoor location creates more natural, relaxed images; while a photo shoot at home captures the environment where your everyday life takes place, often resulting in the most personal photographs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
There\u2019s no right or wrong choice \u2014 only what suits you best. If you\u2019re not sure, tell me what kind of photos you\u2019d like to see on your wall, and I\u2019ll suggest a suitable location.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With outdoor photography, bad weather is always a possibility, so there\u2019s no need to worry about it. If the weather isn\u2019t suitable, we\u2019ll simply reschedule the photo shoot for another day at no extra cost. There\u2019s no need to force a session in uncomfortable conditions or stand shivering in the rain \u2014 we\u2019d rather wait for a better day and work then.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After the photo shoot, I usually send you the online gallery within 7\u201314 days, where your finished, retouched photos will be waiting for you. You\u2019ll receive both web-resolution and full-resolution versions of every retouched image, so you can easily share them online and also have files suitable for printing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Raw images are, of course, created during the shoot, but I don\u2019t provide these \u2014 you will only receive the finished, retouched photos. Post-processing is just as much a part of my work as taking the photographs themselves: this is where the final mood, colour palette and character of the images come to life, which is why the unprocessed RAW files remain with me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
If, after reviewing the gallery, you feel that you would like additional images, that is also possible: you can request extra edited photos beyond those included in your original package.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The best photos are almost always created when people stop paying attention to the camera. My job is to create that relaxed atmosphere; all you need to do is arrive on time, ask any questions you may have, and be present during the photo shoot. We\u2019ll take care of the rest together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
